Online sale - Margaret Wenstrup's art and personal property

Everything But The House is proud to represent the personal property sale of listed Cincinnati artist and modernist pioneer Margaret Newland Wenstrup (1930-2008). Margaret Wenstrup grew up in a small town inKentucky, and the lack of art classes within the local school system led her to seek training elsewhere. She studied weaving in Arizona, took art courses in Indianapolis, and in 1949 Margaret enrolled at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. In 1953, she was the first woman to win the Academy's prestigious Wilder Scholarship

Margaret Wenstrup was also an enthusiastic collector of folk art and found inspiration in the work of artists such as the Kinney's, Howard Finster and many, many others. Margaret is perhaps best known for her modern abstract design, which is evident in the example of her artwork which was selected as a mural to be painted onto the side of the ReinermannBuilding at the corner of Fourth and Central in Downtown Cincinnati in 1971.
