From creative direction, creative strategy, branding, web design, marketing, photography, book design — you name it — it is all a joy. For 20+ years I have owned a small creative studio that does big-size work.
As an AIGA Fellow, I have taught design history, branding, communication theory, professional practice and UI/UX. For years I was a Group Creative Director at a large, international digital CX firm. After all these years and experiences, no matter what I was doing, I have loved it all.

When I am not on the job, you can find me on the road, documenting artist-built environments, self-taught artists, vernacular typography and, frankly, anything else that captures my eye.
Things that have to “be seen to be believed” is where every one of my journeys begin.
Wander: The New home of Detour Art
After traveling the back roads and forgotten two-lane highways for decades — and documenting all along the way — I launched the iOS apps “Best Road Trip Ever!” “Road Trip 66!” and website “Detour Art” to share these amazing places with the wider world.
These digital experiences featured artist-built environments, roadside attractions, historic markers or unusual eateries.
While they are no longer in their original form, I am currently reimagining, reviving and rebuilding everything here. The regional maps include over 10,000 curated sites, so you can enjoy them too.
There is no such thing as fly-over country when you have four wheels on the ground.
Named 2024 AIGA Fellow
The AIGA Fellows program recognizes designers who have made a significant personal and professional contributions to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within the design community as well as in their local AIGA chapter. The areas of education, writing, leadership and reputation, as well as the practice of design are given equal consideration in measuring significant contribution.
