Promoting DEsign

KCAI Graphic Design Website

While acting department chair, I created a comprehensive website for the Kansas City Art Institute’s Graphic Design Program. Features included:

  • Student work: Overview and student portfolio examples for every course offered in the department, by year level

  • Design Pride: KCAI design students and alumni in the news

  • Designalogue: A listing of internships, scholarship opportunities, and job openings. Refreshed monthly

  • Faculty: Bios and links for all professors, both full-time and adjunct

  • “Bright Shiny Design Objects” (BSDO): A blog series about the latest design happenings around the world. Refreshed weekly.

KCAI Graphic Design Social Media

When teaching “Online Presence for the Artist,” it was glaringly obvious that the design department could do much better in promoting our students and events, especially since this is the field that they were all entering into. (Putting our money where our mouth is.)

The initiative was led by seniors, with Ashton Shechter creating the department look and feel (pre-KCAI brand refresh) and she led the charge with posting to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Vimeo.

AIGA-KC

During my tenure as president of AIGA-KC, we energized our DEI and EDU commitments. Working closely with the KC community, we brought in community and national leaders for workshops and lectures.

Groundwork was laid to have the first, youngest, woman of color in all of AIGA to become the next president of the chapter. Her leadership inspired the larger, more diverse membership we have today.

We also honored the legacy of design by working closely with Ann Willoughby to include a retrospective of KC design at our annual awards show.
